Terragon's Fate is the first book in the Terragon series, and it's basically a prequel that explains Shivai's connection to both her teacher Tsivor and Earth.
It's also the only part of the series that takes place in Earth's history, about 300 years ago on an unspecified island in the Aegaean See. The rest of the books are a kind of future fantasy, where a wild sort of magic has appeared on Earth, for reasons the humans do not quite understand.
But back to Terragon's Fate.
I can't quite say what inspired me to write the prequel, but it describes the first skirmish that Shivai has with the particular demon who returns in Terragon's Challenge. It also explains why, precisely, Shivai is forbidden from setting foot on Earth again - and why she does it anyway. And well, it does give Shivai a little bit of a quest for the entire series.
Now, why is there a dragon on the cover?
Because Shivai and all Terragons are shape-shifters who can turn into a dragon at will. And yes, before you ask, this was another attempt at writing spicy shifter smut which... did not turn out that way. I had a very hot scene at the beginning of Terragon's Challenge that I had to edit out because the rest of the book developed in a very different way.
(I just don't particularly care about writing smut, even though it might finally give me the sales I want.)
