Kraken War is book 2 in The Cloud Lands Saga. (Don't worry, Book 1 is free in all stores and even here.)
Now, since there are kraken in Book 1 (sorry, slight spoiler), my heroes get to fight them in this book, as well. Dorelle and Prince Orlen have been given joint command over a few wings of dragonriders.
However, right from the start, treachery is brewing in the ranks - I decided to offer a look at what happens when a rider is not mentally strong enough to handle a devious and determined dragon. This required adding two new viewpoint characters, Kildren and Debesh. (Debesh goes on to play an important role for Dorelle in the later books.)
Debesh quickly became someone I admired. Thrown into a very dangerous and nearly hopeless situation, he shows his inner strength and courage. He is who a dragonrider should be, well atuned to his dragon Vandranen, and true to his heart and honor.
Kildren, on the other hand, only believes she is in command but in truth, her dragon is pulling the strings. I was surprised that one reader called her the "only strong woman" in the story - to me she is very weak. Judge for yourself, though!
At any rate, you'll get a fast-paced adventure with dragons good and bad, a thorougly mangled hero, a dashing Prince and the clever heroine you hopefully liked in book 1.
